A wonderful piece, Peter. When we lived in Napier, the shadow or spirit of William Colenso was everywhere, I felt it from the street and school names, to the displays at the museum, to general discussions about the city and region's past. It was inescapable. I was blissfully unaware of the depth of feeling against him. I look forward to reading your take on his story.
